David Zimmerman actor, singer, producer, director and teacher on what changes the pandemic has brought to his life

David Zimmerman is an excellent and experienced actor, a fabulous singer who can steal a scene and, watch out, will steal your heart. He is overloaded with talent, charm, stage presence, and two other qualities that tip the balance on how he spends his professional time. Those two qualities are love and generosity in heaping amounts. With all he does, it is the teaching right now that is the core of his spirit. He teaches acting to classes populated by a wide variety of students, some of whom are working actors and others who are on the way, some of whom have no physical limitations and some of whom do. His students have widely varied capacities, including autism, Down’s Syndrome, cerebral palsy, paralysis, hearing and visual limitations. Happily David knows that ability is ability and he is devoted to polishing it wherever he finds it. Now, of course he does it all through his Zoom conversations with many of the actors, singers, producers and directors in his life.

For David, like all of us mid-pandemic, life has changed what we are able to do, and sometimes where we find happiness. His is a new life with cooking , dating, caution, hugging, holding onto some material goods, letting others go. Staying in touch with friends and students, and with good news about some of the actors who are once again filming, David talks about his life, what has stayed the same, what has changed, and both categories are filled. What has not changed for or about David is his capacity for joy and intimacy in friendship and welcoming others into his life.

One of David’s major talents is making others feel worthwhile, and that ability is as radiant as ever. You can see it yourself on his Love Letters Live Youtube. Listening to David talk about anything is a joy all is own.
