We The People, people. It is our turn to help the post office and have a whale of a time doing it

The US Post Office has been working for us, has been our servant, our bond and our consoler since the colonists establishment it in 1639, needing help as they did sending letters back to England. Messengers have always been critical to the survival of any society.

Century after century, decade after decade, day after day through wars, depressions, pandemics, riots, terrorism both internal and external, the post office has held us together. Whatever threatened us as a nation, they stood strong to keep us strong. Now they are under threat and need us to hold them together. We the people, people. It is our turn to return the favor.

The US population numbers over 331 million. 23% of those are children, so if we take away the 23%, that is 76 million, we get 255 million adults. I know that not everyone wants to or has the money right now to buy stamps to help. But, let us say half can. That means 127.5 million buy stamps. If each one buys $20 worth of stamps, I get a total of $2.500,000,000. That is 2 ½ billion and, as my mother would always emphasize since the amount was an almost unbelievable amount, “Billion with a B!”

The whale of a good time kicks in once you have bought a generous amount of stamps. You can now write love letters to your parents, friends, children and everyone you love who is suffering dementia in a care facility and does not understand why you are not coming to see them. You can write some to yourself to document how bravely you are surviving this pandemic, what you are doing these days to make the world a better place and just to give yourself a deserved pat on the back. Yes, write them and send them on their merry healing way. Take a listen to his episode, and see the reality of the US Post Office. Come join the party.

And take a look at the Love Letters Live Youtube for a more personal reading of their mission and the additional bonus of a good old-fashioned trunk show. Yes, stamps, the fashion statement you start with.
